Exploring the Coast

The perfect starting point

Downtown Sechelt is the perfect coastal town for idling away an afternoon. Wander down streets of quaint shops, sample an assortment of bars and restaurants, and stroll along the picturesque seawall for spectacular ocean views.

Davis Bay Beach is one of the longest stretches of sandy beach on the Sunshine Coast, and definitely a must-see. The boardwalk & pier are perfect spots to catch stunning sunsets over the Georgia Strait.

Gibsons Landing is home to a variety of charming boutiques, galleries, cafes, and restaurants - shop, stroll, and dine, all against the backdrop of Howe Sound and vistas of the coastal mountains. Stop by Gibsons Public Market to enjoy local food and fresh produce, or stroll along the public dock where fishermen sell the morning’s catch.

Day trips to Gambier and Keats Island are another popular activity on the Sunshine Coast. Foot passenger service is easily accessible by Gibsons Harbour Ferry or Sunshine Coast Water Taxi, both departing from the dock in Gibsons Landing. Beachcomb, swim, rest and rejuvenate along the scenic shores, and enjoy a relaxing escape from daily life.

Where to Eat and Drink

Hope you brought your appetite!

Bars and Restaurants - Almost too many to name, but some of our favourites include:

  • Joe's on the Beach (phenomenal oceanfront patio on Davis Bay)

  • El Segundo (great ambience and tasty options)

  • The Basted Baker (our go-to brunch spot in Sechelt)

  • Lighthouse Marine Pub (another incredible patio, this one overlooking Porpoise Bay)

  • Lunitas Mexican Eatery (tacos & margaritas along the seawalk in lower Gibsons)

Bakeries - If you have a sweet tooth, you’ve absolutely come to the right place. No trip to the Sunshine Coast is complete without a stop at either:

  • The Bakery (in Sechelt)

  • Sandy’s Bake Shop (in Gibsons)

Cideries & Breweries - The Coast is also home to several incredible cideries, featuring home-grown BC apples, and craft breweries:

  • The Bricker and Banditry Cider are both worth a visit, though Sunday Cider (closer to Gibsons) is our current favourite

  • Tapworks Brewing Company has an incredible rooftop patio, but there's nothing better than a sunny afternoon at Persephone, an 11-acre farm-based brewery

Hiking on the Coast

Lace up those shoes - trust us, it's worth it.

Chapman Creek Trail offers a spectacular route through an old growth forest, winding along the creek before reaching Chapman Falls. This trail is a great option for beginners, as well as seasoned hikers looking to enjoy a quiet escape. A round trip will likely take 2-3 hours, and access to the trail can be found directly behind The Oceanside, A Coast Hotel.

Cliff Gilker Park is a popular gathering place for families, walkers, photographers, and naturalists. The trail system covers more than 7km, and includes colour-coded hiking routes cutting through forests, over creeks, and across unique wooden bridges. These trails are located just a short drive away, in Roberts Creek.

Soames Hill is closer to Gibsons, just 3km away from the Langdale ferry terminal. Enjoy stunning views of Gibsons Harbour, the coastal mountain range, and local islands (Keats, Gambier, and Bowen Island). The trail is relatively short, but fairly steep; it typically takes 40-60 minutes to complete.
